FOLLOWING confirmation in May that Morrison Construction’s parent company would be restructuring their business, discussions have subsequently taken place between the Falkland Islands Government and Galliford Try concerning the need for continuity across capital works and security for employees.

Initial talks are now progressing to sell Morrison (Falklands) Limited to an industry leader in the civil engineering and construction business, subject to further contractual consultation between parties.

Colin Summers, Director of the Public Works Department, said: “This is positive news and we are working closely with Galliford Try to encourage these negotiations to a successful conclusion. Our priority remains to ensure that our existing projects can be delivered within the previously agreed timescales, and to ensure that the transfer of ownership proceeds as smoothly as possible. We are hopeful that an agreement will be confirmed within the next few months and that by September we will be able to make a formal announcement concerning the future partnership arrangements.”
