Argentine 1982 War veteran dies kayaking to the Falklands

alejandroARGENTINE newspapers report that an Argentine veteran of the Falklands War has died this week while attempting to kayak to the Islands.

Alejandro Daniel Carranza, 49, fell into the water about 200 meters from Staten Island in the southern tip of Argentina, and his body was rescued by navy personnel on Wednesday, the Navy said in a statement.

Meanwhile, cruise mate, Juan Pablo Dacyszyn 36, was evacuated on the coast of Punta Barrasa, southwest corner of Staten Island, by ship ARA "Gurruchaga Francisco" and was expected to arrive on the continent today.

Dacyszyn "was in good health" said medical personnel.

"For those who want to learn about John Paul, he is well and was rescued. At this time in the boat with rescuers going to Ushuaia," wrote his daughter Florence in a blog of the journey called "The End of the World the Falklands."
