Mark is Sports Development Officer for the Falkland Isalnds

THE Overseas Games Association (FIOGA) has announced the appointment of Mark Nightingale  as Sports Development Officer. Mark’s principal responsibility will be to assist clubs to develop their sport, and to increase participation in sporting activities, particularly among young people.

Team Falklands at Commonwealth Games 2018

THE Falklands team is primed and ready to take on the challenge of the Commonwealth Games. The fourteen competitors along with team officials attended a glitter  opening ceremony at the Gold Coast Australia on Wednesday. The games are being held from 4 -15 April.

Bill and Louise bring home bronze

A MAGNIFICENT bronze medal for members of the Falkland Archery Team, Louise Clarke and Bill Chater, capped off what has been, so far, a week of personal and team excellence in Gotland.

Falklands sports facility options on the table

A MULTI-PURPOSE sports arena with an Astroturf surface and a multi-use games arena was the most ambitious of three proposals presented to sports clubs and other individuals interested in the future development of Falklands sport, at a meeting on Monday.

MLA for Sport Mike Summers (pictured) Director of Central Services Matt Bassford along with Arch Henderson’s Project Engineer Darren Plato, outlined three all-weather sports facility proposals which have been examined by a Development Group. The group has also explored potential sites around Stanley.

The two other options comprised an all weather football pitch with a multi-sports surface, possibly with a 400m running track around the outside, and the  second proposal is an indoor Astroturf playing surface, configured for at least three sports.
