CONCERNS about "safeguarding" of children at Stanley House is the reason why the Ministry of Defence (MoD) will not send children to board at the children's boarding house MLA Stacy Bragger told Penguin News this week. However, he failed to provide detail when asked what the issues were.Penguin News reported some time ago that the MoD was concerned about Stanley House, and at this week's Legislative Assembly MLA Bragger assured the public that a great deal of work had taken place to develop the service provided at Stanley House and to ensure that all the appropriate policies and procedures were in place.  Currently the MoD is not placing service children at Stanley House, he confirmed last week.Penguin News asked why it had not been necessary to close it to the rest of the students, in view of the fact the MoD did not consider it a suitable environment for service children?  MLA Bragger responded: "It is the Education Department’s view that Stanley House is a safe and appropriate environment for all children boarding there. "However, it is recognised that there is room for improvement and work is ongoing to raise standards and to continue to ensure that the welfare of all children using Stanley House comes first at all times."
