New road links British forces to training ground

onionTHE road between Mount Pleasant Complex and the vital training area on Onion Range has been completed by the Public Works Department.

A spokesperson for the British Forces in the Falklands said, "A much-needed new road has been built linking the Mount Pleasant Complex, home to British Forces South Atlantic Islands and Onion Range Camp ensuring that vital kit and equipment can be moved between the two locations with ease. Previous to the road's completion, supplies had to be taken in by helicopter or by tracked vehicle."


The construction process was complicated with the route having to be cleared for any unexploded ordnance or debris. The final hurdle was the river that runs along the edge of Onion Range Camp; crossed by a complex culvert and river diversion before the road could be completed.
