A VIGOROUS election campaign, characterised by vocal contributions to public meetings and radio discussions, taking full-page adverts in the Penguin News, and even including informal 'surgeries' at the entrance to the West Store and Chandlery clearly paid dividends for Stanley doctor, Barry Elsby who gained a landslide victory in tonight's by-election. Dr Elsby polled a massive 462 of 702 votes. -
New oil find for Rockhopper
Thursday, 10 November 2011OIL explorer company Rockhopper made a second oil and gas discovery in the Falkland Islands.
The company reported Wednesday morning that the exploration well drilled by the Ocean Guardian on the Casper prospect proved a "high-quality reservoir package and oil column" with 18 metres of total net hydrocarbon pay, including a gas cap of 8.4 metres.

Rockhopper deal for greater exposure
Wednesday, 09 November 2011ROCKHOPPER Exploration yesterday agreed a deal to give it greater exposure to its oil find in the Falkland Islands, and said it has received interest from potential partners for a major expansion, according to City A.M. and a release from Rockhopper.
Rockhopper, which this week lifted its oil estimates for the Sea Lion field by 20 per cent, said it will acquire a 52.5 per cent extra stake in part of a licence controlled by Desire Petroleum.

MEMBER of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Camp constituency Bill Luxton, announced his decision to resign today and his resignation has been accepted by H E The Governor.MLA Luxton, who has served many terms in the service of the Legislature, told Penguin News this morning that he has informed his colleagues that he had come to the conclusion that the extra work load on them resulting from his prolonged absence "is really not fair and that even when I am here it is not satisfactory for me to be Chairing any of the important Committees on a part time basis."

Airport for St Helena

ST Helena will finally have its airport announced Governor Mark Capes yesterday.In a statement he notes "We are pleased to announce that the Secretary of State's conditions have now been met, and that we have today entered into a contract with Basil Read (Pty) Ltd in the amount of £201.5 million for the design and construction of the airport, an additional up to £10 million in shared risk contingency, and £35.1 million for ten years of operation. This represents a saving of more than 20% in real terms from the 2008 price, taking into account inflation and the value of the pound."

Resounding no from Camp on single constituency referendum

CAMPERS were almost unanimous in rejecting the concept of a single constituency in their response to the referendum held today in Stanley, Thursday November 3.84% (152 voters) of votes cast in the Camp constituency offered a resounding no vote with only 16% (29 voters) saying yes.
