ON Wednesday July 25 2012 the Falkland Island Community School hosted its annual swimming gala.
As the final major sporting competition in the school calendar it was the last opportunity to gain vital points in the house competition. With over 80 students participating in 47 races, including the medley and freestyle relays, a float race and of course the staff versus student relay – the competition was fierce.
The event was a great success with fantastic individual and team performances, the spirit of camaraderie evident throughout the morning and an enthusiastic crowd of supporters made it feel like the Olympics! There were a number of outstanding performances with Sorrel Pompert-Robertson winning all of her four individual races, Amber Goss winning a hat trick in her events and also solid performances from Daniel Clarke, Ryan Watson, James Tyrrell, Ophelia Ellick and Callum Boyce winning two races each. The newly appointed Head Boy Scott Thain and Head Girl Amy Guest led by example winning their individual races.
It was a very close scoring event from the start but the final results were:
Positions House Point Scores
1st Place Ross 108
2nd Place Shackleton 105
3rd Place Fitzroy 104
This year it was Shackleton house which won the staff versus student relay and so the staff will be starting training ready for next year in order to regain our title.
