Thursday, 08 March 2012This week is all about slogans and how they translate to fitness and health. Many people find it motivating to think of a slogan or post it on their wall reminding them to apply those words in every day life. Well, my intention this week is to give you slogans to think about and apply to your health.

Health and fitness tips with Natalie Brett
Thursday, 23 February 2012In keeping on topic with the NHS and its healthy initiatives; we have all seen the little plastic people in their ads talking about Change4Life but have you actually taken the time to read up on it or use some of their tips?
I spent some time on their website recently just to see how easy they have made it and if it is easy to follow and I was shocked by just how easy it is. They have a section for families and a section for adults making it easy to narrow down which category you fall into and want information on. In the adult section there is quick tips and fun tools to use to improve your health from fitness to healthy eating to advice on cutting down on smoking and drinking. In the family section helps with meal planning and activity planning that is healthy for the entire family. The only down side I found was that the members section requires you to be a UK resident and does ask for a UK address. If you do have a UK address I would highly recommend signing up as it initially takes you through a questionnaire about your daily routine then it provides you with information and tips relevant to your answers.
If there is anything I can't stress enough and I've said it before; plan ahead! When healthy eating and exercise are planned into your weekly routine they are more likely to happen. So, get your weekly planners at the ready and work with some sense of order, for me it is colour coding; I use a colour pen (or colour font) for each category of activity in my week and make sure one of those categories is physical activity, in a family you may just use a different colour for each family member and one colour for family activities. Then, as one of the tools on the Change4Life website suggests, create a 7 day meal plan, this helps you plan for your grocery shopping and fits in with the time frames you have to work around with all the activities in your planner.
This is my online agenda (using google calendar but just as easy to do in outlook) just to give you an idea of how to plan your week which then gives you the time to plan your meals and get your shopping done. I like to refer to it as organised chaos!

5 A Day... we've all heard it and know the expression, probably even joke about it; no, the apple flavoured vodka you just mixed with lemonade does not count! But do we really understand the importance of fruit and vegetables in our diets? And why five?Categories Sport | Practical Health and Fitness tipsRead more... -
