Ship monitoring comes home

cruise_shipAN out of hours radio service which monitors marine radio frequencies will be re-established in the Falklands from the first week of June.

Harbour Master Malcolm Jamieson explained that Harbour Control using VHF radio is maintained by the Operations section of the Fisheries Department (FISHOPS) during office hours, seven days a week. Out of office hours, the service is handed over to Cable and Wireless who have taken entry and exit reports from vessels since 1994. The service was moved to C&W St Helena in 2008.
